FIRM
We are a full service interior design firm. We are able to handle the hundreds of details necessary to create a finished interior from concept through completion, including interior architecture, space planning, finishes, furnishings, rugs, upholstery, window treatments, wall treatments, and accessories. We’ve even been asked to select dishes, table linens and glassware on occasion.
Art is central to our approach. We use art to enrich interiors, and we benefit from our close relationships with galleries and local artists.
Many of our projects involve a renovation or new construction. In these projects, we nearly always design the interior architecture for spaces such as the kitchen, bathrooms and library. For new construction projects, we do space planning during the architectural design phase because the physical architecture of the house may need to be tweaked to make rooms function at their optimum level and to be a pleasing backdrop for all new furniture and art.
Our firm consists of principal designer Robert Trotman, two expert design assistants and an office manager.
ROBERT TROTMAN
Principal designer, Robert Trotman, ASID, has been designing homes in the Portland area since 1986.
He is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers and currently serves as a trustee of the Portland Art Museum, where he chairs the Collections Committee and is also a docent. He is a board member of the Pacific Youth Choir, and he has also served as the president for the Oregon Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.
Designers who have influenced Robert’s work include Bunny Williams, Alyssa Cullman, and Thomas Jayne. Robert studied architecture at the University of Oregon and studied design in Berlin and Paris as an undergraduate. He also holds a BA in history from the University of Oregon and a Juris Doctorate from Northwestern School of Law.
CLIENTS
Our clients’ time is valuable, and they are looking for an expert to manage their project professionally and smoothly. Our clients appreciate art and are often looking for a designer who can guide them through the art world and help select special pieces for their home. We have worked with hundreds of clients. We have completed projects as small as the furnishing of just one room and as large as completing all the interior architecture, space planning, furnishings and artwork for a 16,000 square foot residence. We have designed spaces in a number of well-known Portland buildings, including the Gregory, the Westerly, the Elizabeth, the Eliott, Fountain Plaza, Vista House, and the Mirabella.
PROCESS
Every project begins with a conversation about what comfort and wellness at home means to you. We have 2 or 3 planning meetings, in which we will guide you through options. If custom furniture and architectural details are needed, we work with a select group of craftsman, carpenters, and painters. When all furniture, finishes and fabrics have been selected, we manage the ordering, receiving, and delivery. On the day of installation, we personally inspect all items and place them in your space. All the furniture and window treatments are installed together, followed by the hanging of all artwork and the arrangement of accessories.
